I am excited to welcome Laura Stamps here today.  “The Rune Witch Series” is a great series!  Laura, thank you for taking the time to stop by Sizzling Hot Books. I am delighted to have you here.

1.) Would you mind telling the readers a little about yourself and the books you write?

I’m a paranormal erotica novelist, and my blog is wickedly naughty (as you can imagine *lol*).  I’ve been a fulltime author for 23 years, and my work has been published in over a thousand magazines, literary journals, and anthologies worldwide. The recipient of a “Pulitzer Prize“ nomination and seven “Pushcart Award” nominations, I’m the author of more than forty-five books. I’m also a Wiccan Faery Witch, empath, and psychic, so I enjoy writing novels about contemporary Pagans living in the Deep South. Because it’s important to me to portray Pagans realistically, my novels are full of real spells, chants, and rituals. And the erotic ones have lots of romance and HOT sex. Why? Because I’m totally oversexed and LOVE it!  And I’m a kinky slut.  Okay, that just about sums it up.  *sex-obsessed grin* 

2.) Why erotica? Did you always know that was the genre you wanted to write?

As for the erotica question, I think I just answered that.  I inherited my dad’s raging hot libido, so sex is my life and my career.  No, I have not always written genre fiction.  I started out in the literary market, writing and publishing literary fiction and poetry for more than a decade before I made the switch.  In fact when some of the people I used to know from the literary market find me on Facebook now they’re HORRIFIED at my change in career.  What can I say?  When I made the switch to genre fiction many years ago I kinda disappeared from the literary market.  I knew it would be a shock for them, and I didn’t wanna cause too many literary heart attacks, ya know?  lmao! 

3.) What scene did you have the most fun writing for The Rune Witch Series?

It would have to be the ocean sex scene in Bewitched at the Beach.  Why?  Because I have a rep for only writing sex scenes I’ve experienced in real life.  If I haven’t done it, it’s not gonna show up in one of my novels.  So, yes, Wes (my long-suffering husband) and I had sex in the ocean when I was in college, and we were dating.  It was AWESOME!!!  Have I mentioned I’m also a kinky exhibitionist?  Well, I am.  Anyway, there were people not more than 20 yards from us in the water at the same time.  But no one knew what we were doing cause the waves are always rocking you when you’re in water waist-deep.  The beach was packed with tourists, too.  GAWD, I loved it!  Okay, I’m always getting my conservative husband into kinky sex situations much to his dismay.  But that just makes it more fun, right?  *falls over laughing*

4.) I believe that ‘The Rune Witch Series’ is a spin off of another series you wrote, ‘The Witchery Series’, can you tell us about that?

The Rune Witch Series is a spin-off in a very loose way.  I say that because all my series (4) involve the same cast of characters.  It’s just in some series or novels they are the main characters, and in others they are secondary characters.  The Witchery Series is the only series of mine that is not completely erotica.  The first novel (The Witches of Dixie) is very empowering for women with no sex or romance.  The second one (What Witches Want) is a sweet romance with tasteful sex.  The third one (Call of the Witches) is a sweet romance with erotic sex.  This series basically builds the neighborhood in Columbia where most of my series and novels take place, and it introduces you to the main characters.  But all my series can be read out of order, and each novel in The Witchery Series can be read as a stand-alone with its own HEA.  All the novellas have a HEA too, but are more fun if you read them in order and the entire trilogy, like The Rune Witch Series, for example.

5.) Could you tell us a little about ‘The Manigault Vampires’ series? What inspired you to write about vampires?

The Manigault Vampires series is a serialized, romantic erotica series in ebook. In this series, you’ll meet Drayton Manigault, the owner of Manigault Technologies and one of the richest businessmen in Columbia, South Carolina. Dray also happens to be one of the oldest vampires in the city. All of the Witches in The Witchery Series novels return in this series for lots of erotic, vampy fun with Dray, Val (Dray’s older brother), and Atwell Gibbs (their cousin). Did I mention how gorgeous these vamps are? Oh, yeah, they’re smokin’ HOT in and out of the bedroom. Trust me! 

As for inspiration, I had been wanting to write a vamp series for years but didn’t know how I would fit it into my Witchy world.  Then Wynn (from The Rune Witch Series) mentions one day he works for Drayton Manigault, and Dray is a vamp.  EUREKA!!  There was my connection, and the entire vamp series took off from there.  In fact it starts at a Samhain party at Wynn’s and Noelle’s house. 

6.) I heard there is another spin off series from ‘The Witchery Series’, called ‘The Faery Witch Series‘ could you tell us a little about that and when to expect it to be out?

This is a series I plan to write after I finish the next vamp novel.  All my series follow the same timeline.  Sometimes they happen at the same time.  Sometimes they move in a straight line.  For example, Call of the Witches: Book Three of the Witchery Series leads right into A Vampire’s Kiss: Book One of the Manigault Vampires.  And The Rune Witch Series happens at the same time as Call of the Witches.  So my readers never feel lost.  As for The Faery Witch Series, there is a missing 6-week period at the end of What Witches Want (the third week of June) and the beginning of Call of the Witches (the first week of August) that I wanna explore.  It’s when Donnie’s and Savannah’s (from What Witches Want) love affair heats up smokin’ hot, and I wanna know what happens during those 6 weeks.  Like I said, that will be The Faery Witch Series, an erotica novella trilogy like The Rune Witch Series. 

7.) Your books are full of hot steamy sex scenes do you ever have trouble writing them? Do you reward yourself once you write the sex scene or do you just keep writing?

Thanks!  I’m glad you like them.  No, I never have trouble writing hot sex scenes because sex is my life, and it’s what I love, and I have a lot of sex in real life.  However I will say writing a good sex scene is not easy.  I think most people find this out when they try to write one.  It’s a delicate mix of action, thoughts, and dialogue.  I like a fast hot pace, so those three elements are written to give the reader an instant panty-melt in my sex scenes.  I’m a ruthless editor, and all my chapters go through at least 15-20 edits before I’m finished with them.  The editing on a sex scene is even more meticulous, and they go through at least 30 edits before I feel every word is right in them. 

Actually, I never thought about rewarding myself after writing a sex scene.  Cool idea!  I usually just go on to the next chapter.  I’ve been doing this for so long I never have writer’s block, and I write every day of the year.  Thanks for the reward idea, gf.  I’m always looking for another excuse to indulge in my addiction to shopping for trashy lingerie.  Alrightyyyy!  lol 

8.) Where do you get the ideas for your books? Are you inspired or influenced by anything?

Hmm.  Let me think about that.  I’m much more interested in how relationships grow during the course of a novel than suspense or chasing bad guys.  So my novels are all character-driven.  I allow them to give me the idea for a series or novel.  The thing about writing character-driven novels and series is they tend to run away with them sometimes.  I think Sara and Dray in A Vampire’s Kiss did the best job of that. 

Let me explain.  I usually follow a brief outline for the next 4-5 chapters.  And I don’t start writing a novel until I know the h/h, the climax, and how it’s going to end.  Then I let the characters lead me through each chapter.  So I always have an idea how I want the next 4-5 chapters to go.  That’s my outline.  However Dray and Sara refused to follow my outline.  Finally, after 20 chapters I gave up and let them lead.  They ended up making that novel longer than usual.  And they did a fab job with it.  It truly is one of my best so far.   

9.) When did you know that you wanted to be a writer? Were your family and friends supportive?

I have a mild form of dyslexia, so I never considered being a writer, even though I was always an avid reader.  In high school and college my professors told me I had writing talent, but spelling and letters moving around made that kinda hard so I never pursued it.  However I was also blessed with artistic talent and won all the top art awards in school.  I went on to major in art in college and became a professional artist.  My paintings were sold in galleries across the country, and my art prints are still sold worldwide by my art print publisher in California (Haddad’s Fine Arts).  You can find them on the web and Amazon.  My paintings are also on the covers of the paperback version of The Witchery Series published by Trytium Pubishing.  

But when I was thirty I gave up the struggle and became a writer.  I was never 100% satisfied being an artist, and writing satisfied me completely.  So I taught myself how to write, which I call painting with words, and I never looked back.  My friends have always been supportive.  I come from an abusive family so there was no support there.  However, my dad did buy my first typewriter in college so I could type my term papers, and I will always be grateful for that.  It was the one I typed my first published books, stories, and poems on.  Now my fans, husband, the Goddess, and the Fey are my greatest supporters.  I did mention I’m a Witch, right? 

10.) Who inspired you the most to follow your dream of being a writer?

Don’t laugh, okay?  Angela Lansbury on Murder She Wrote.  That show was on when I made my career change.  I kept thinking how tired I was of carrying big framed paintings and big portfolios to galleries and art fairs.  And I thought it would be much more fun to sit at a typewriter all day.  Plus, manuscripts are not as heavy or awkward to carry as big paintings.  Then I discovered Writer’s Digest magazine, wrote my first poem, and that was it.  I was completely satisfied creatively for the first time in my life.  So I changed careers that day.  Being that I have always done what I wanted to do with no one cheering me on (like family), I pursued my dream of being a writer all by myself and never looked back.  I always knew I would succeed one way or another.  That was never a question cause I always do what I wanna do and keep doing it until I find a way to make to work.  My writing career has been no different. 

11.) What is the writing process like for you? Do you have a particular writing process or any writing rituals?

I’ve said before I’m character-driven.  That means to write the first draft of a chapter I simply set my characters in the scene and let them move around and do their thing.  Then I follow them and write everything down.  That’s basically it.  Of course they continue to talk to me and tweak and add and cut up chapters and paragraphs and do all kinds of stuff during the editing process.  You could say it’s definitely a team effort.     

12.) I believe I read somewhere that the first draft of your novels are done long hand, and then you type them is that true? Why do you do it that way?

Because I started out in the literary market as a poet, I write all my first drafts longhand in a spiral notebook.  Rarely do poets compose on computer.  Instead they carry around index cards and note paper and write and edit that way.  So I just got used to it, and now when I want to create fiction, I do it longhand.  I fill one spiral notebook after another until I’m finished with a novel.  A Vampire’s Kiss is 40 chapters long, and I finished the first handwritten draft of it in 9 weeks in several spiral notebooks.  Then I go back and type it on computer and edit ruthlessly until the manuscript is finished and ready to send to one of my publishers.  For a novel, this editing takes 5 – 8 months.  The cool thing about writing first drafts longhand is several universities around the country collect my archives, and they LOVE this kinda stuff. 

13.) In your free time what can you be found doing?

I have two hobbies (if you don’t count sex *lusty grin*).  I am an avid gardener, and I’ve been in feral cat rescue for 30+ years.  That’s why some of my Witches (like Sara, Donnie, and Blaine) are Green Witches and have lots of gardening and herbal experience.  And that’s why there are always cats in my novels. 

I live next to a state forest and at the moment my current feral cat colony is from there.  When I found it 4 years ago it grew to 21 cats and kittens before I could get them all socialized, fixed, and find homes for them.  Now there are 3 left, and they live on my back porch and think of themselves as my outdoor kitties, which they are.  Plus, I have 6 indoor cats who are all ferals and strays. 

I should add I am a vegetarian and eat mostly organic.  That’s why my Pagan characters are also vegetarian, and you’ll find yummy vegetarian recipes in my novels and novellas.  My fans say reading my books makes them hungry for veggies and veggie recipes.  Yeah, vegetarians eat realllllly good, and I love showing my readers just how good we eat.  lol

14.) If you could be any paranormal creature what would you be and why?

A vampire.  Why?  Because a vamp’s bite gives you an instant O.  They are verrrry sexual creatures.  Plus, my vamps are Daywalker vamps, meaning they can walk in daylight.  What’s not to like, right?  The funny thing is when Wes found out I was writing a vamp series he started biting my neck during sex, acting like a vampire.  Yummmy!  Of course when we watched the Underworld movies he started doing the Lycan thing and growling when he bit me.  Yummy!  But I digress….  *sex-obsessed grin*

15.) What are you currently working on? Anything you can share regarding your current Work in Progress?

Currently, I am working on the final edits of A Vampire’s Kiss so I can release the last installments of that fab vamp serial novel.  Then I will write The Faery Witch Series.  Should take about 6 months.  I have that one in note form at the moment and look forward to getting that hot series in the hands of my fans. 

Then I’ll write the second novel in The Manigault Vampire series called A Vampire’s Embrace.  I already have the first chapter of that one in first draft.  That one will also have some swinging in it.  My parents were swingers, so it’s a lifestyle I am familiar with.  Plus, I would LOVE to swing myself (Pleeeeeeease, Wes! *lol*).  The cool thing about my vamp series is it’s not a trilogy like The Witchery Series, The Rune Witch Series, and The Faery Witch Series.  I intend for it to go on for as long as it likes. 

The first three books in The Memoir Series will be coming out in the next week or so.  That series is made up of posts from my X-rated blog.  So The Memoir Series and The Manigault Vampires series are not trilogies and will both go on for as long as they like.  And that’s what I will be spending my time writing from now on.  Unless my characters tell me they want another series.  Then all my plans are shot to hell.  *falls over laughing*

Bewitched at the Beach: Book Two of the Rune Witch Series

CHAPTER ONE

“Hey.”  Tuesday afternoon, the third week of August, and Noelle holds her cell phone in one hand while her other hand rests on her slim hip.  Standing at the glass door of the import store she manages, she watches the late summer sun bake the store’s asphalt parking lot, sending shimmering waves of heat snaking across its inky surface.  “What’s up?”

A sexy growl rumbles through Wynn’s throat.  “My dick is always up for you, darlin’,” he teases.

Noelle snorts.  “Tell me something I don’t know, cat-man.”  She steps back as three cars pull into the parking lot, and several women emerge, walk through the door, and into the store.  Turning around, Noelle signals to one of her employees, pointing toward the new customers.  “Seriously, we’re starting to get busy here.  Stop wasting my time and tell me why you’re calling.”

Wynn chuckles.  “Patience, darlin’.  You’ll like this.”

“I better,” she warns. 

“Are you working this weekend?”

“Just Saturday,” she replies.  “I’m opening, and you know how cranky that makes me.”  She shakes her head and groans.  “I’ll never be one of those perky morning people.”

Wynn chuckles.  “Tell me something I don’t know, sugar.”

“Quit fooling around, cat-man!  I’m not having a good day.  Our air is on the fritz again, and I’ve got two men on the roof right now trying to fix it.  I’m hot, and, I swear, if they tell me one more time that unit is terminal, I’ll…..”  Noelle impatiently taps the stiletto heel of her boot on the tile floor.  “Argh!”

“Relax, sugar.  What would you say about spending three nights at Hilton Head?  We’d leave on Friday and come back Monday afternoon.”

“I’d say you’re dreaming.”  Noelle runs her hand through onyx, gel-spiked hair, blotting the back of her moist neck with her collar.

“Maybe not, darlin’.”

“Then spill.”

“Dray went to a supplier party a few weeks ago.  They had door prizes, and he won a trip to Hilton Head this weekend.  The beach isn’t his thing, so he offered it to me.  I wanted to run it by you first before I told him I’d take it.”

“Cool!”  She turns away from a woman looking at a display of baskets imported from Africa.   “But your boss is a daywalker, right?” she whispers into the phone.  “Why is he giving up such a great trip?”

“Sugar, daywalker vamps can walk in the sun,” Wynn explains.  “They just can’t bake in it.”

“Gotcha.”  Noelle snickers.  “Dray in swim trunks lying on the beach, soaking up rays.  Yeah, that’ll never happen.”

“Exactly,” Wynn replies.  “So do you wanna go?”

“Absolutely.”  Noelle hurries to the counter and pulls out the weekly schedule from the shelf beneath the cash register.  “Tell Dray we’ll take it.  I can find someone to cover for me on Saturday.  My assistant manager owes me a favor anyway.”  She lays the schedule on the counter.  “Shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Excellent.”  Wynn growls again, his voice low, and sexy.  “Maybe after dinner tonight you could model that bikini you bought last summer at Dillards.  You know, the skimpy black one.”

Noelle snickers.  “Down, boy.”

*     *     *     *     *

The sun slowly sinks in the sky when they approach the beach house on Friday evening.  Decorative clumps of sea oats are scattered throughout the front yard and sway lazily in a salty breeze. 

“Sweet,” Noelle muses, yawning and stretching after the long drive.  She throws her arms up over her head and wiggles in her seat, grateful Wynn could leave work early that afternoon and beat the traffic coming home to pick her up.  Thirty minutes later they tossed their luggage in the car and hit the road for the three-hour drive to the coast.

Even though she loves to tease Wynn about his fancy sports car, Noelle appreciates how it pampers her body.  Especially on a road trip.  Soft leather seats cushion her back, while an expensive sound system floods the car with classic rock.  Tinted windows filter the scorching South Carolina sun. 

As Wynn turns into the driveway, Noelle glances out the window at the expensive beach houses lining the street.  All are painted in pastel colors, sprawling across spacious lots, each landscaped to provide plenty of privacy.  Several luxury hotels rise from the beach next to the neighborhood.

After he parks the car, Wynn hops out and grabs his travel bag and the large black backpack Noelle uses for short trips.  Slinging the straps of both over his shoulder, he rummages through his pocket for the key Dray gave him before he left the office.

“What do you think?” Wynn asks, closing Noelle’s door when she steps out.

“Nice, ” she replies, turning around to weave her fingers through his as they walk toward the house.  “Isn’t it?”

“Very.”  Wynn bends over to brush his lips across her cheek before slipping the key in the front door.

A cool blast of air conditioning bathes Noelle’s face.  Wynn pushes the door open and stands back, allowing her to walk through the entryway into an airy living room.  Her stiletto heels click loudly across spotless hardwood floors.

“Awesome,” she says, flipping the latch on the sliding glass door and stepping out onto a wide deck wrapping around the back of the house.

Wynn drops their luggage on the sofa and follows her outside.  Standing behind Noelle, he draws her back against his chest, slipping his hands beneath the black tank top she threw on before she left Columbia.  He playfully tugs on the silver ring piercing her navel before his fingers glide up to cup her breasts.  Dragging his thumbs across her nipples, he chuckles when they instantly harden into tight buds. 

“No bra today, sugar?”  Wynn dips his head, nuzzling her neck.

Noelle purrs and leans against him.  “Like you just noticed, cat-man.”  She places her hands over his and grinds her hip into his growing erection.

He growls and sucks her earlobe into his mouth, nipping it gently.

“Ouch!” Noelle yelps, elbowing the unmoving wall of his chest.  “That hurt.”

Wynn ignores her outburst, moving her toward a hot tub recessed into the deck.  He kisses her collarbone.  “Want to go skinny dipping, darlin’?”

“Sounds good to me.”  Noelle snickers, noticing the row of tall bushes on each side of the property that form natural privacy walls.  “Looks like we won’t be freaking out the neighbors.”

Wynn laughs.  “Since when do you care?” 

“Good point.”

He turns her around in his arms and claims her mouth. 

Noelle gasps as his tongue flicks across her bottom lip and then plunges into her mouth, devouring her.  His hands massage her breasts, rolling her nipples between his fingers and thumbs.

She moans and melts into him, hungrily returning his kiss, her hand tangled in his long dark hair.  Slipping her fingers between their bodies, she gives his hard cock a squeeze, and he inhales sharply.

“Dear Goddess,” she breathes, when he releases her mouth.  “You’re frisky tonight.”  She fans her face and pulls out of his embrace.  “Let me find the bathroom in this place, and I’ll be back.”

She walks over to the edge of the hot tub, eying it suspiciously.  “Is this thing warm?”

Wynn squats down and dips his hand into the water.  “I guess whoever cleans this place got it ready for us.”  He looks up at her.  “Try it and see.”

She bends over and sticks a finger in.  “Mmm, I like that,” she purrs, waggling her eyebrows suggestively.

“Flirt with me, sugar, and I’ll take you right here on the deck,” he warns, his dark eyes shining.

“Promise?” Noelle teases.  She squeals and dodges his hands, running through the open sliding glass door and into the house, laughing.  “You’re so easy, cat-man!”

She swipes her backpack off the sofa and dashes down the hall in search of the bedroom.  Stopping at the first door on her right, she finds an office with a computer, printer, and fax machine. 

“Not what I’m looking for,” she mumbles, turning back into the hall and walking through the door on her left.

“Bingo.”  Noelle tosses her backpack on the king-size bed and wanders through an arched doorway into a master bathroom larger than her kitchen in Columbia.  After she freshens up, she strips off her clothes and pads back through the house.

When Noelle opens the sliding glass door, she sees Wynn lounging in the hot tub.  Two bottles of water sit beside him on the deck next to a plate piled high with nut butter sandwiches and apple slices.

Can you tell me a little about yourself?

Sure. I’m a shameless slut, exhibitionist (BTW, have you seen my lingerie pics at Facebook? *kinky grin*), and voyeur addicted to lust, trashy lingerie, sex, and men’s dangly parts. I’m like the living version of one of the heroines in an erotica novel. I don’t just write this sex stuff. I live it.

Oh, wait! You wanted my official “author” bio, didn’t you? Sorry! Okay, I’m an award-winning erotica and paranormal romance novelist, whose blog is wickedly naughty (gee, what a surprise!). My work has been published in over a thousand magazines, literary journals, and anthologies worldwide. The recipient of a Pulitzer Prize nomination and seven Pushcart Award nominations, I’m the author of more than forty-five books. A Wiccan Faery Witch, Empath, and Psychic, I enjoy writing novels about contemporary Pagans living in the Deep South. Because I portray Pagans realistically, my novels are full of real spells, chants, and rituals.  You’ll also find romance and HOT sex in my books. Why? Because I’m totally oversexed and LOVE it (gee, what a surprise!).

Who are my publishers? A more accurate question would be who are my publishers “at the moment”? The last year has been insane for me in that one of my publishers suddenly went out of biz in March 2009, I got a new agent in June 2009, I signed a contract with a new publisher in February 2010, parted ways with my new agent in March 2010, and started publishing again with Kittyfeather Press in March 2010. Helluva a year, huh? *lmao* But at this moment, on April 22, 2010, my novels are published by Kittyfeather Press and Trytium Publishing. See? It’s definitely a moment to moment thing for me. Really. lol

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been a fulltime, professional writer for 23 years.

Can you tell us a bit about The Witchery Series?

It’s a sexy paranormal romance novel series in paperback at the moment (remember, that’s the key phrase for me) but should be coming out in ebook in July. In this series you’ll meet five wonderful Witches: Savannah, Maylene, Mirabella, Noelle, and Ravena. There’s something for everyone in this trilogy. The novels range from empowering to romantic to erotic. You’ll also find real spells, chants, and rituals in each one. Big fun! I wrote this series because I wanted to show people what real Witches and Pagans are like, since we’ve gotten such bad press for the last 2000+ years. I also wanted to show people how incredibly sex Pagan men are. So I have yummy, hunky Witches, Pagans, two-natured Fey (yes, they do exist), psychic vampires (yes, they do exist), vampires, and shapeshifters in this series.

Can you tell us about the serial novel A Vampire’s Kiss and The Manigault Vampires Series?

The Manigault Vampires is a serialized, romantic erotica series in ebook. The first novel in this series is A Vampire’s Kiss. In this series, you’ll meet Drayton Manigault, the owner of Manigault Technologies and one of the richest businessmen in Columbia, South Carolina. Dray also happens to be one of the oldest vampires in the city. All the Witches in The Witchery Series novels return in this series for lots of erotic, vampy fun with Dray, Val (Dray’s older brother), and Atwell Gibbs (their cousin). Did I mention how gorgeous these vamps are? Oh, yeah, they’re smokin’ HOT in and out of the bedroom. Trust me! *lusty grin*

Because of the publisher chaos I have endured the last 16 months, I ended up going that long without a new novel being published. HORRORS! Not to mention there were six finished books of mine waiting to be published during that time. Yeesh! So to treat my long-suffering fans I released the vamp series as a monthly serial through Kittyfeather Press. It’s like a sexy, X-rated vamp fix the first week of every month when each new installment is published. Yummmmmmy!

If you couldn’t tell by my name, I’m a bit of a vampire fan, what is your favorite paranormal being?

Damn, that’s a tough one. I almost said a “hard” one, but you told me to stay PG for this interview, and that’s one of those word-triggers for me, so…. *lol* I adore the shapeshifter, Wynn, in The Rune Witch Series. But I would have to say vamps are my favs. Vamps are sex-on-a-stick, and their bite gives you an instant O. I mean, what’s not to like? Duh!

Who are your favorite authors? What about your favorite movies?

Emma Holly, Kathy Love (her 2 vamp series are awesome), Sherrilyn Kenyon, Delilah Devlin (HAWT cowboy erotica), and Lora Leigh (Bound Hearts series). Fav movie? Underworld ROCKS!!!

What is your best birthday memory? Just in case let’s keep it PG-13. LOLHow did you know I was thinking HOT b-day sex? Oh, you read my naughty blog posts for the two weeks before and after my b-day this year on April 2, didn’t you? Whew! Can you say “Sexfest”? Oh, yeah… *sex-obsessed grin*

What are you working on right now?

When I’m not writing my monthly e-newsletter, or email mailings to my list, or weekly blog posts, or my “Dear SexWitch” sex advice column in Witches & Pagans magazine, I’m working on the vamp series. Like every day. Series novelists are strange creatures. If we go too many days without working on one of our series we’ll need serious meds. Being that I’m already delusional and always think I’m 18, I try to avoid the men in white coats and work on my series every day. Yesterday was a good example. I keep vampire hours, working until 3-4:00am, crashing, then waking up at noon, and starting all over again. But yesterday was my monthly acupuncture treatment, and it’s at 11:00am. SHIVERS! So I was awake yesterday for 20 hours. And I got 11 hours of writing in: 6 hours to write the April issue of my newsletter, and 5 hours of writing on the vamp series. The Manigault Vampires series is unique in that it is unlimited, so I spend a lot of time on it. Do you have any upcoming appearances?

Not at the moment (amazing how that word keeps popping up, isn’t it? Of course, “popping up” sounds good too. Yummmy! But I digress…). Anyway, I used to do booksignings every month at my local Waldenbooks. But Borders closed 200 of their 300 Waldenbooks and Borders Express stores in January, and that was one of them. Bummer, cause I met some cool fans there from around the country. Plus, it’s in the mall, and the eye candy in the Deep South (I live in South Carolina) is AWESOME! Hunky guys of all ages with long gorgeous hair. Yumm! Sometimes I would be so enthralled with all the tasty male flesh walking by in the mall I’d forget I was there to sell books. Oops! Okay, so I’m a cougar. But that’s a good thing, right? lol

Just got a contract today from Trytium Publishing.  My ex-agent’s plan was to buy out my publishing contracts with my other publishers and put all my books with one publisher.  A BIG risk for me, but I decided to give it a shot.  That means he bought out my contract for “The Witchery Series” with Trytium last year.

Well, as you all know, the “new” publisher didn’t work out, and we parted ways on May 21.  That meant I finally got the 9 books back that publisher had been sitting on for almost a year.  Three of those books are “The Witchery Series” trilogy novels.  The deal my ex-agent worked out with Trytium was that those novels would never go out of print during the transition phase.  So Trytium has continued to publish them in paperback.  The minute I got all the rights back, I contacted Dave at Trytium, and told him to send me another contract.  That’s what I got today.  So Trytium will continue to publish this popular series in paperback, and Kittyfeather Press will now publish this trilogy in ebook with hunky new covers.  Cool, huh?

When I got the 9 books back in May, Alex and I set a goal of getting all of them published and in ebook (on my site and in the Kindle Store) in 30 days.  I mean, they’ve been languishing at different publishers for two years now, and enough is enough, ya know?!  Yeesh!

So far so good on reaching our goal.  I’ve been working like a crazy woman ever since and have completed final edits on “The Rune Witch Series” and “The Witchery Series” and put them in ebook format.  Now they’re in Alex’s verrry talented hands while she creates hunky covers for them and downloads them on my site in pdf and in the Kindle Store.  BTW, some of you have been asking me if I have a publication date on these two series.  Not exactly, but I can say they will go on sale in the next few weeks.

Last night I finished the first of the three books in my Memoir Series, “Being Naughty,” and sent it to Alex.  So I just have the last two to edit, put in ebook format, and send to Alex (“Still Naughty” and “Always Naughty”).  When I finish those two all 9 books will FINALLY be in production and ready to go.   Yay!

Speaking of the first memoir, “Being Naughty,” I thought I’d run an excerpt from it today.  It’s another one of my naughty memes.  This one is from August 29, 2008.  Yeah, this “Memoir Series” is full of all kinds of FUN stuff!

I found this meme at the blog of my saucy friend, Ann.  I usually avoid memes like the plague, but this one appealed to my inner dirty girl, so I thought I’d give it a shot.  To be honest, this was the usual clean meme when I found it on Ann’s blog, but I couldn’t help tweaking and rewriting it in terribly naughty ways. 

What can I say?  The strangest things excite my inner dirty girl.  Or as the Uber would say: “Laura, EVERYTHING excites your inner dirty girl.”

True.  Okay, here it goes:

1.) My uncle is unknown.  I’m the black sheep of my family, so I know very few of my relatives.  Actually, most of them have been warned away from me.  Seriously.  I’m supposed to be strange or something.  Silly rumors.  But what can you do?   *wicked grin*

2.) Never in my life have I smoked a cigarette.

3.) When I was five I was delusionally happy.  But I didn’t realize that until reality slam-dunked me when I was twelve.   Ouch!  I’ve been avoiding it ever since.  

4.) High school was a BLAST!!!

5.) I will never forget losing my virginity, but I wish I could.  Yeah, it was HIGHLY forgettable.

6.) Once I met my husband, my sex life improved drastically.  Yay!

7.) There was a guy I dated in college who couldn’t have an orgasm.  Yeah, it was fun, but after a while it was like ENOUGH ALREADY….JUST DO IT!!!

8.) Once, at a bar, I danced myself silly.  Actually, I did it more than once.  Actually, I did it all the time at any bar I went to and loved it.

9.) By noon I will have been on computer for six hours and still have two more hours to go before I finish answering all the emails from my readers/fans/friends for the day.

Next time I go to church will be in September when I go to a wedding in Charleston.  Luckily, only the parents of the groom know I’m a Wiccan Faery Witch, so there’s a good chance no one will freak.  Too much.  Or throw holy water at me.  No, wait.  That’s what they do to vampires, isn’t it?  Okay, hold the holy water.   

13.) What worries me most is nothing.  You think I’m too simple to worry, don’t you?  Yeah, you’re right.   

14.) You know I’m lying ….well, lying isn’t my thing.  Of course, I am a Southern Belle, so I will politely gloss over anything negative and do it with a smile on my face.  Trust me.  You’ll love it.  I’m really good at it.

15.) What I miss most about the seventies is the fact that almost every guy had long hair back then.  Now it’s a rare delight.  Although we do have quite a few men with long hair in the Deep South (thank you, thank you, thank you!).  So I’m not complaining.  Too much. 

16.) By this time next year I will have written more erotica novels and novellas.  Plus, I’ll be even naughtier, lustier, and more wicked than I am now.  And, yes, having a great time, as usual.

17.) A better name for me would be The Queen of Lust.

18.) I have a hard time understanding anything that doesn’t involve sex.  Hey, I’m just being honest!

The first of May my agent and I parted ways on friendly terms.  And on May 2, I sent out a “Special Message” to all of you, explaining what had happened and why.  I cannot thank you enough for your kind and generous response.  I really felt your love at one of the lowest points of my career, emotionally and financially.  I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the way you rallied around me.  You are truly AMAZING!

Then on May 13, “A Vampire’s Kiss” went on sale in the Kindle Store (http://www.amazon.com/s?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=digital-text&field-author=Laura%20Stamps).  Yay!  I’ve wanted to be in Kindle forever, so I’m thrilled about this.  Sales have been strong and steady, so I’m a happy slut for sure.   

Ready for more good news?  On May 21, the new publisher and I parted ways on friendly terms.  Yay!  That means my contract with this pub was terminated, and once again I now own all the publishing rights to my new books and series.  *happy dance, happy dance*

Yeah, I’m agent-less.  But I have three publishers I adore.  And that’s all this slut needs.  Seriously.  Trytium Publishing will continue to publish “The Witchery Series” in paperback.  Haddad’s Fine Arts Inc., will continue to publish my art prints and posters.  And Kittyfeather Press will publish my ebooks.  Who needs more publishers and agents?  Not me.

Many thanks to all of you who posted a question last week for this interview.  It was a blast answering them.  Okay, here we go…! 

Interview with the SexWitch

1.) Have you ever slept with a boss or coworker of yours? (Kristen’s question)

Hmm.  I dated a few coworkers, but how can I say this delicately?  None of them “inspired” me to go beyond the kissing/groping stage.  However, there have been a few 20-something guys who’ve worked at bookstores where I’ve done booksignings that I would jump in a sec.  That counts, doesn’t it?  Hey, life is goooood when you’re a cougar.  LMAO

Actually, Wes is the only one who qualifies as an answer to this question.  We were both working at the college, and that’s how we met.  I was working in the Print Shop part-time, and he was working in the Accounting Office.  I had to run by his office every two weeks to pick up my paycheck from him.  In fact, I still have the paper the college sent me, telling me to pick up my paycheck from Wes.  Cool, huh?

2.) Have you ever had a experience with a vamp yet or witch (Desi’s question)

I don’t know if this is a sex question, but I’ll pretend it is (lusty grin).  The answer is Yes.   Actually, I married one.  No kidding.  Wes is a Histrionic Psychic Vampire, which is one reason why he has so many hissy fits.  The other reason is cause he’s an irritating Alpha.  Duh.  But I’ve been surrounded by psi-vamps all my life.  I’m a high-level Empath, and our healing energy is like chocolate to psi-vamps.

In case you’re wondering, Histrionic Psi-Vamps are aggravating but not the dangerous kind.  One of my old college boyfriends is a Paranoid Histrionic Psi-vamp.  Okay, those are the reallllly scary ones.  In fact, if you’ve read “What Witches Want: Book Two of the Witchery Series,” I modeled the character of Greer after that old boyfriend.  Typing this reminds me I woke up the other night after dreaming about him.  I haven’t had a dream about him in decades, but he was still mean as hell, which is why I woke up.  Shivers!

So, yes, I know and have had all kinds experiences with psi-vamps and blood vamps (Sanguinarians).  And, yes, I’ve fucked a few, too. 

Of course, Wes is the vamp who gave this shallow slut the best Os of her life, so he’s the one who got to marry me.  Never let it be said I don’t have my priorities in order, ya know?  *sex-obsessed grin*

Interview With A Witch… Laura Stamps!

Laura drops in to let us know a little bit about herself and to answer some q’s from some of her fans… O_O

1. What attracted you to the romance genre, in particular the erotic romance sub-genre?

I’ve always been very romantic (stop laughing, Spicy!). In elementary school I was addicted to fairy tale books. Read them in every school I went to (my family moved around a lot when I was young). All very romantic. Then I discovered the Bronte sisters. “Wuthering Heights” was like my bible when I was 15. Loved it! Only one problem with those books. No sex. I inherited my tomcat dad’s libido. Yes, my dad was a verrrry kinky guy, who had wives and girlfriends everywhere (stop laughing, Spicy!). My libido kicked in when I was seven. Or that’s my earliest memory of getting in trouble for it. That’s when my mother caught me doing a BDSM/bondage thing with my dolls (Barbie, Ken, and a stuff animal…don’t ask *lol*). It was all downhill from there. So erotica is a natural for me. Romance, wild sex, what more could a slut like me want? Duh.

2. Why did you decide to become a writer? How old were you when you started writing?

I decided to become a writer cause I was tired of painting stories with color. I was an Art Major in college, and my prints and posters are still sold worldwide by my art print publisher in California. My paintings also illustrate the covers of “The Witchery Series” novels. Anyway, I’m dyslexic. Of course, back in high school (the 70s) no one knew that. They just thought I was really shitty with spelling. Since I always won all the art awards, I went with art as a career, even though my English teachers told me I had writing talent. And I was always put in the Honors literature courses in college.

But being an artist never completely satisfied me creatively. By the time I was 30 I gave up the struggle, dug up all my college English books, and taught myself how to write. 23 years later my poems and fiction have appeared in over 1000 magazines, literary journals, and anthologies worldwide. My resume of awards and publication credits is over 80 pages long, and I have published more than 45 books with several publishers. I’ve been nominated for the “Pulitzer Prize” (2005) and received seven “Pushcart Award” nominations. In 2003 two of my poems were included in a celebrity anthology with Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou, Muhammad Ali, Robert Kennedy, etc., published by Martin Luther King’s Daughter, Yolanda. Yeah, I’ve worked my ass off. And I still do.

3. Do you get your inspiration from real life for your books? (Spicy asked this q)

Hmm. Generally, when I’m thinking about a new novel I decide who the hero and heroine will be. Then I figure out what the climax will be. Sometimes I know the end, and sometimes I don’t. As you know, I network very closely with my fans and readers every day, so I like to make the themes of my novels something my readers can identify with or are struggling with. Like falling for bad-news men or recovering from an abusive divorce. Or career/financial struggles. You name it. So the themes from my novels come from real life.

My characters are all fictional, except Sara in “A Vampire’s Kiss,” who is a clone of me (stop laughing, Spicy!). Occasionally, I create them with characteristics of people I know. For example, Mirabella is a composite of like 10 high-strung artists I know. The bad guy (Greer) in “What Witches Want” is modeled after my abusive high school boyfriend. However all my heroes (Donnie, Blaine, Wynn, Dray, Val, Atwell, etc.) are completely fictional. I don’t know any one like them. I just decide what characteristics I want them to have and then go from there. Same with my heroines (except Sara).

That’s because my novels are character-driven, meaning my characters rule. I work with a sketchy outline for each chapter, usually one or two sentences in length. Then I set the characters in the scene, follow them around, and write down what they say. Except with Sara and Dray. They were the first to refuse to follow even the briefest outline. So after 20 chapters of doing this in “A Vampire’s Kiss” I threw my outline notes away and let them rule.

4. What is your favorite book of all time and why (this can be any book)?

My fav novel of all time is “Demon’s Fire” by Emma Holly. Why? She has got to be the BEST erotica novelist out there. And her hero, Prince Pahndir, is a total panty-melt. My fav nonfiction book is the “Tao Te Ching” translated by Stephen Mitchell. Why? I am a very Taoist Witch. In fact I made the hero (Blaine) in “Call of the Witches” a Taoist Green Witch, and he gives the heroine a copy of this book as a gift.

5.Tell us a little more about the series on your blog–specifically, the dynamics between the main characters.

You can find all my series on my vampire Blogger site (http://www.avampskiss.blogspot.com). The vampire series is on the homepage, and the other series have their own pages and buttons in the button bar (The Witchery Series, The Faery Witch Series, The Rune Witch Series, The Memoir Series).

“The Manigault Vampires” is my first serialized, romantic erotica series in ebook. In this series, you’ll meet Drayton Manigault, the owner of Manigault Technologies and one of the richest businessmen in Columbia, South Carolina. Dray also happens to be one of the oldest vampires in the city.

The first novel in this series is “A Vampire’s Kiss.” The heroine is Sara Gadsden, who is a Green Witch (she’s good with plants). She’s also addicted to vampire romance novels and considers herself an expert on vampires. She meets Dray at a Samhain (Halloween) party. Dray is dressed as Dracula. Sara has no idea he’s a real vamp. In fact only a few people know this. So she immediately tells him he’s doing the vamp thing all wrong cause he isn’t acting like the vamp heroes in romance and erotica novels. lol

Dray is 145 years old and was turned during the Civil War. He has seen just about everything, so nothing in life excites him anymore. Then along comes spontaneous Sara who is constantly surprising him. She’s a wild, kinky, sex-obsessed girl (remember, she’s a clone of me). He is a conservative, very wealthy businessman. Oh, and he’s totally yummy. The chemistry between those two just SIZZLES! Sara is a horny slut, and when she isn’t jumping Dray the banter between them is hysterical.

Okay, I know you’re wondering why I made Sara a clone of me when I’ve never done that before with one of my novels. Let me ask you this. Have you noticed what Dray looks like? Long, waist-length black hair, lean bod, tall, totally hunky, dresses in Armani, gorgeous face. Right. I took one look at him and thought “I wanna fuck this guy.” And Sara does just that…over and over and over again. Ah, life is GOOD! *sex-obsessed grin*

6. How important do you think secondary characters are? What are some of your favorites? (from any book, including your own).

Secondary characters are very important. They add a necessary dimension to any novel. Readers say about all of my series that they wish they had Witch friends like my characters. A good example would be Wynn and Noelle. They are both secondary characters in several of my series, yet Wynn is so gorgeous he had his own fan club for a while. And Noelle is a trip. She’s a real scene stealer for sure. In fact they are so good together I finally gave them their own series (”The Rune Witch Series”) which will be coming out in a few months. It is one of my series that has been held up at other publishers for 2 years now. Even in the vampire series Val (Dray’s older brother) is developing his own following. So I think secondary characters are very important.

Clean shaven. Beard burn? HORRORS!!

Ambidextrous. Purrrrrrrrrrrr….!

Sorry. Don’t do dairy unlss it’s organic. Wait! Are you talking about sex? In that case neither. I’m tutti frutti. What can I say? I’ll always be a kinky slut.

4. What’s your favorite type of mischief?

Sexual. Duh!

5. Fave type of lingerie?

Leopard prints. I have so many leopard print panties I’ve lost count. Oh, and some really cute zebra print panties with heart shaped buttons. Speaking of that, in “A Vampire’s Kiss” some of the Witches go lingerie shopping. 95% of the lingerie they buy are pieces I own. What fun! Okay, back to the question. All my bras are leopard prints, some with black lace, and some with lime green lace. Oh, and my wicked leopard-print cami, the one with red lace covering my breasts (kinda), is famous. It was my fav to wear at booksignings cause I could flip up my shirt and flash people with my nipples. Major fun! Did I mention I’m an exhibitionist? Well, I am, and flashing goes with the territory. Hey, not my fault my breasts tend to fall out of that cami, so every time I lift my shirt I have no idea if they’re in or out. I know. I have waaaaay too much fun at my naughty booksignings!

6. Are you really going after Spicy’s werewolves? (Note: Spicy did NOT ask this question–I did. )

Of course! Weres are HAWT. I figure these guys must be incredibly bored hanging around a chilly chick like Spicy all the time, so I figured I’d bring the party to them. I mean, every time I see a good-looking guy I always wonder what he’s like in bed. So you can bet I wanna see how Spicy’s hunky Weres use their “tools.” Yummy!

7. Pirate or knight?

Pirate. Of course.

8. Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt and why? (YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE ONE!!)

Damn, that’s a hard choice! No pun intended (lol). I would say Brad Pitt, only because he’s blonde (I have a thing for blondes), and I don’t think he smokes. Cigarettes? Horrors!!!

9. Favorite sex positions?

My mom took DES when she was pregnant with me, so my uterus is in an unusual position. Totally works for me cause it makes my G-spot accessible from any sexual position where I am facing my lover. Hits that spot every time. Damn, that feels good! 4-5 strokes, and I have an O, which is why I’m a multi-O woman and usually have 7-8 orgasms before my lover has his. Yummy!
