If you wondered why my Wednesday blog post didn’t go up on Wednesday this is why. It takes 3-4 days for books to go live on Kindle once you enter them in the system. When I found out this HAWT series would be coming out last week, I decided to make my blog post about it. But I wanted to wait until all three of the books in this series were up on Kindle and on my site in pdf.

You’ve Fucked Up One Time Too Many, Dude!

All I can say is it was an AWESOME two weeks leading up to my 53^rd birthday last Friday. I must have received over 200 emails, PMs, DMs, cards, and calls, as well as tons of postings from friends, readers, and fans at EONS, Facebook, PaganSpace, and Twitter wishing me a happy birthday. Most said they wanted to send their gifts and good wishes early, because they didn’t wanna miss my special day.

Wow! Thanks, everyone! I was totally overwhelmed with your love and kindness. It meant the world to me. Really. Like I always say, you are the BEST!!

So how did my birthday go on the homefront? Funny you should ask…

Because Wes plays golf on Fridays, he knew he’d be home late that night, so he suggested we celebrate my b-day on Thursday night by going out to the restaurant of my choice. Cool. I chose one of my fav restaurants because even though I don’t ordinarily eat sugar I do splurge on my b-day. And this particular restaurant has killer apple cobbler and ice cream.

Wes likes to eat dinner early (like 5:00-ish) because he hates waiting to be seated. In fact, when you look in the dictionary under the word “impatient” you’ll find his name. So imagine my surprise when he’s a no-show on Thursday night.

Huh?

Finally, I text him at 6:00 to see if he’s changed his mind. Columbia is the capital of South Carolina, and we live in Yuppie-land, so the restaurants tend to get crowded early. He texts back a few minutes later to say he’ll be home soon, and we can still go out. That’s when I realize he’s at the bar with his buds and probably forgot we were celebrating my birthday that night.

Okay, whatever.

He finally shows, and it’s almost 7:00 by the time we get to the restaurant. Miraculously, they seat us right away, and dinner goes well. It’s my birthday dinner, so I’m in the mood to celebrate, and I’m having a blast. Several of the servers have become friends of mine, and some are members of my Facebook Fan Page and readers of this blog. So it’s kinda like a friend party at the restaurant.

Plus, we were really lucky to get one of my fav servers that night. He’s so good at what he does he’s also a trainer. Not to mention he’s always in a good mood. In fact, when he brought our dessert he stuck a pink candle in it, lit it, and wouldn’t leave until I made a wish and blew it out.

What fun!

However the trouble started when we finished eating. Wes has this “King of the World” thing going where the minute he finishes eating at a restaurant he wants to jump up and leave immediately. Of course, that isn’t possible because he isn’t the only customer in that restaurant. So he spends the rest of the time grumbling and complaining (often loudly) until the server gets our bill to us, and Wes can leave. Thursday night was no exception.

Because we know the server, I took a few extra minutes to chat with him and thank him for the candle. But while we’re chatting, Wes suddenly jumps up and walks briskly out of the restaurant.

The server is shocked. He looks at me with a stunned expression on his face and asks, “He just left you????”

I laugh because I think Wes is playing with me. He’d been overserved at his bar, and he does weird shit when he’s had too much to drink. I scurry out after him, laughing and waving goodbye to everyone as I leave.

But when I catch up with Wes in the parking lot I discover he left me because he’s furious with me.

Huh?

“You talk too much!” he yells. “You knew I wanted to leave, and you kept talking anyway.”

Let me stop right here and say the only thing Wes has to do after dinner every night is yell at his computer (which he hates) for about 30 minutes. Then park his ass in his reclining chair and watch sports on TV.

Don’t worry. He wasn’t mad at me because he was jealous. The man doesn’t have a jealous bone in his bod. He was mad because he thought I was wasting his time. This was an all-about-Wes thing.

“Chill, hon, it was my birthday dinner,” I reply. “So I had a good time and talked to people. Besides, you were the one who came home late.”

I’m still dashing after him, because he’s walking really fast while he’s yelling at me.

“Damn,” I say when we reach his car, “you’re walking so fast you act like you would’ve driven off and left me.”

“You’re right,” he sneers. “I would’ve left your ass if you hadn’t come after me.”

Okay, now I’m pissed.

Wes has been having these hissy fits over silly shit ever since the economy went down the toilet two years ago. But he can’t just work harder and wait for the economy to recover like everyone else. Oh, no. He has to indulge in a 24-hour pity party and spend his evenings with his drinking buds at his fav bar.

Of course, when we get home and he sobers up he’s horrified at what he did and how he ruined my birthday dinner. Once again, the next day I get flowers. You know the kind. The I-hope-these-flowers-get-me-out-of-the-doghouse-AGAIN kind.

Those of you who’ve been reading this blog know this is the third batch of those flowers I’ve received this year, and it’s just the first week of April. Yeesh!

Hey, I know what you’re thinking. This is a replay of his Valentine’s Day fuck-up and his I-waanna-divorce fuck-up in February. Geez, I could’ve just edited one of those blog posts and run it today as the Birthday Dinner fuck-up. LOL

But you know what? The dude has fucked up one time too many as far as I’m concerned.

I’m totally fed up with asshole Alpha men this year. That’s common knowledge. I’m soooo tired of them clipping my wings and telling me the way I act and think and talk is wrong. Hey, I’m an attractive, positive, happy, hardworking, delusional slut who loves to fuck. What’s not to like, right?

Unfortunately, I’m exactly the kind of person who irritates an asshole Alpha like Wes. He’s always fond of saying “happy people make his ass twitch.” And it’s true. They irritate the hell outta him.

Do I care? Nah. The dude needs to get his act together. And fast. I’ve gotten rid of almost every Alpha man in my life this year. You could say I’m in a “spring cleaning” phase right now (wicked grin). My agent is gone, and I’m running Kittyfeather Press again. Happily. Successfully. Joyfully.

Wes is the only Alpha man left in my life. Uh-oh.

Yeah, I’m more than tired of being penalized by Alpha assholes for being me. I’m tired of this shitty treatment, and I’m not taking it anymore. These days this SexWitch is claws out. If you’re an Alpha man DO NOT FUCK WITH ME! It could be a scary thing.

The next evening (my birthday) I cornered Wes in the kitchen, and we had a long, “intense” talk (he would probably use the adjective “painful” rather than “intense”). As you all know, he’s one of those Alphas who does NOT like to discuss anything, especially emotional stuff. But I would not be denied, so I kept after him until he opened up. An hour later we both felt much better, and he has decided he needs to be more affectionate toward me.

We shall see.

So far he’s trying hard. Again. *shakes my head*

Wes Fucked Up Again. Ugh!

I’m sure by now many of you have seen me hinting about this, so here are the juicy details.

When I had lunch at the mall last Tuesday with my friend Amanda she said she couldn’t believe Wes hadn’t noticed I haven’t been wearing my wedding ring for almost two weeks now. That was the first time he fucked up. The Thursday before Valentine’s Day when he complained for the third time that week about having to give me a Valentine’s Day gift.

What?

I mean, we’re only talking about a $50 bookstore gift card, ya know? Well, the the third time he complained I blew and told him I was tired of his negative attitude about EVERYTHING. Then I declared our marriage open, so he could go out and find a woman he liked enough to give her a V-day gift without bitching constantly about it.

My first thought when he did that was I’m tired of wearing my wedding ring and honoring a marriage he obviously thinks little of. Wes apologized profusely (of course) and tried to be more positive. But I’m tired of having to blow up every month or two just to get him to be nice to me. So I wasn’t in any hurry to put my ring back on. I thought I would just wait and see how long this latest effort of his lasted.

I told Amanda (and my agent when he said he was shocked, too, that Wes hadn’t noticed) it could take Wes six months to notice I’m not wearing my ring. Know why? Cause he rarely notices anything about me. I’m one of those lucky women who never has to worry about her husband cranking at her for buying clothes, because Wes doesn’t particularly like my taste in clothes (okay, I dress like my 20-something friends). And he thinks my addiction to trashy lingerie is silly, too. Thus, he never pays any attention to what I wear. Or don’t wear. Like my wedding ring.

That night he came home an hour later than usual for dinner because he’d been having too much fun with his buds after work. That meant when we went out to dinner we had a 15-minute wait to be seated.

Wes is an Alpha and a Leo, and he HATES to wait. So he immediately started complaining to me about it. The conversation got so negative I finally told him to cut the crap and tell me something positive.

“Well, if you don’t like it you can just leave,” he replies, glaring at me viciously. “You can take your books, computer, and cats and move out. I’ll be happy when you’re gone.”

Huh?

“So you’re saying you wanna divorce me?” I ask, trying not to get pissed at this latest hissy-fit tantrum of his.

“Just leave,” he snarls. “Take all your stuff and clear out.”

“Excuse me,” I say (okay, now I’m pissed). “In a divorce I get the house, and you move out.”

“No way,” he responds, grinning nastily. “I stay, and I’m kicking your ass out.”

Unfortunately, the thingy they gave us started flashing its little red lights, and we were seated.

“Let me get this straight,” I say after the server takes our order and walks away. “You wanna divorce me just because I’m tired of all your negative shit?”

“Yes,” he insists, glaring at me with eyes cold as stone. “I want you OUT!”

Okay, he’s worked himself into a good one this time. I wait a few minutes while he glares hatefully at me. “So you don’t want an open marriage,” I say. “You wanna divorce instead? Okay.”

He blinks. And clarity returns. “I never said that,” he replies, suddenly realizing what he’s done.

“You just told me you would be happy for me to move out,” I repeat. “Sounds like a divorce to me.”

“You know how I am,” he says, backtracking fast. “I get aggravated and say things I don’t mean.”

“Oh, I know exactly how you are,” I say, narrowing my eyes at him, thoroughly pissed. “You’re an Arrogant Alpha Asshole!”

He grabs my hand across the table, patting it, trying to make nice. It’s like he just realized it was only nine days ago he landed in the doghouse the last time, and he’s still on probation with me. Now he’s fucked up again. This time even worse.

Yikes!

Because he’s actually making himself pay attention to me he starts to frown as he strokes my hand. I follow his gaze and find he’s looking at my ring finger.

“You’re not wearing your wedding ring,” he says, pulling my ring finger up to get a better look at the gold fashion ring I’m wearing instead.

I can’t help laughing. I mean, if he hadn’t fucked up so badly AGAIN and hadn’t been backpedaling fast AGAIN it probably would’ve taken him six months to notice I’m not wearing my ring.

“I stopped wearing it when you fucked up the last time,” I reply. “For the last two years it’s like I’ve gotta have a meltdown every few weeks to get you to be nice to me. So I wasn’t in any hurry to put it back on this time.”

“You haven’t been wearing your ring for two weeks?” he asks, incredulous. Then he points to his ring. “But I wear mine all the time.”

“That’s because I’ve never given you a reason NOT to wear it!” I exclaim. “Get a clue, DUDE!!”

“Dude?” He shakes his head, laughing sheepishly.

“And now less than two weeks later you’ve said mean things to me again.” I roll my eyes. “This really encourages me to wear my ring, dontcha think? Especially after you said you’d be happy if I left.”

“I never said that!”

I just glare at him.

“Okay, I was having a fit. I can’t remember what I said.”

Yeah, Wes has been backpedaling ever since. The next day I got these text messages from him:

1.) “Sorry I acted like an ass. You didn’t deserve it.”

2.) “I think stress and alcohol made me do it. I love you and want us to stay together. I said things I didn’t mean and I’m sorry. You didn’t deserve that.”

Then he left me this note in the kitchen:

“Sorry about last night. I was a jerk. xoxo”

That evening he came home with roses. A week later he’s still being extra sweet to me, and I’m groovin’ on it.

But, damn! It’s a bitch he has to fuck up for me to get the royal treatment from him, ya know?

Oh, and I’m still not wearing my wedding ring. Like I said, he’s gotta give me a good reason to put it back on. And I’m still waiting. I mean, he hasn’t passed the 9-day mark yet… *rolls my eyes*

It’s Always All About Me & My Happiness. Duh!

One of my local girlfriends called me on Wednesday night because she was at a crossroads in her life. She’s twenty, and she’s trying to figure out what her next move will be. Almost every area of her life sucks right now, and to make matters worse, nothing she’s done career-wise has clicked for her either. Yeah, that was bumming her out, too.

The problem is she’s a creative person. But she’s under pressure from her family and society to create a traditional life for herself. Yet she knows in her heart that’s just not gonna work for her.

What it boils down to is she’s never given herself permission to do what makes her happy. And she’s not alone. I think that’s what happens to a lot of people at any age. We spend too much time thinking about what we feel we should do rather than finding a way to do what makes us happy.

When I was a teen this choice was made easy for me. Of course, at the time I didn’t see it that way. I grew up in an abusive family with parents who were mentally unstable. Mostly I was told I would never make it in life, and I would never be a success.

Of course, I didn’t believe that (LOL). But it taught me at an early age to take responsibility for my decisions. I realized with no loving family to cheer me on in life I would have to be my own cheering section.

I also decided if that was the case, then I was gonna spend my life doing whatever makes me happy. Period. It didn’t matter to me if people said it couldn’t be done. If it was my dream, I was gonna follow it and find a way to make it happen. I’d seen too many miserable adults to want that kind of life for myself.

Shivers!

And that’s exactly what I’ve done. First, I was a painter and became a successful one. Then when I was thirty I changed careers when painting no longer made me 100% happy. I became a poet and a novelist. It didn’t matter to me that I’m dyslexic. It didn’t matter to me that most small press writers make no money.

When I told my accountant I wanted to start my own small press publishing company and sell my books through direct mail, he cautioned me that most direct mail businesses fail.

That was twenty-three years ago. Once again, I didn’t listen. LOL

Oh, I crashed and burned a million times. But I looked at all of those boo-boos as learning experiences. In the process I became one of the most financially successful writers in the small press. I not only taught myself how to write, but my writer’s resume is eighty pages long now and full of awards and publication credits. Plus, more than forty-five of my books have been published, first by my company and then by other publishers.

So I told all of this to my friend. I said if you choose to do what makes you happy in life you’ve gotta learn how to crash and burn and learn from it, rather than take it personally. Decide what your dream is, and then find a way to make it happen. But realize your dream will change from decade to decade. I know mine has. Every time my dream no longer makes me happy I tweak it until it does.

If you do this, at the end of your life you’ll look back with satisfaction. Why? Because almost every day was a happy one rather than a day spent working a job you hate, while you count the years until you retire.

My friend laughed. “You should be a motivational speaker,” she said.

“I could be,” I replied. “But speaking doesn’t make me happy. Writing novels makes me happy. So I put lots of empowering stuff in my books, and that’s good enough.”

I mean, there are a lot of things I could do. I’ve been blessed with several talents. But only a few make me truly happy.

Life is short. I think I’ll spend it doing what makes me the happiest. That would be writing smokin’ hot erotica novels.

Oh, and having as much fun and sex as I possibly can. Can’t forget that. Duh! *sex obsessed grin*

I Am What I Am. Uh-oh…!

I had a fab conference call with my agent and Alex on Friday afternoon. Then my agent called that night to discuss a contract he’s working on for me.

In the course of the conversation he says: “When I tell people about you, I always say you’re the most honest person I know.”

I laugh and thank him for the compliment. “Well,” I reply. “I am what I am. What you see is what you get with me. I’m the same in person as I am on the web.”

“I know,” he agrees. “I admire that about you because it’s so unusual.”

It may be unusual, but to me it’s a no-brainer. Growing up in a dysfunctional home, I realized right quick (as we say in the Deep South *LOL) how important it is to build a nourishing life that lets you be who you are.

Unfortunately, I think there’s too much pressure on women to be something we’re not. We’re supposed to be thinner. We’re supposed to look younger. We’re supposed to be prettier. We’re supposed to be richer. We’re NOT supposed allow our lusty inner slut have a voice. We’re NOT supposed to be kinky and love it. And so on…

I’m not saying you shouldn’t live a healthy lifestyle and tone your bod with regular exercise. You know I’m totally into that. But what I am saying is you do the best you can with what you’ve got, and that’s good enough!

I’ve always been a firm believer in pursuing my dreams as well. I mean, why shouldn’t I? Why shouldn’t anyone? If my career gets to the point where it no longer excites me, I tweak it until I love it again. Who cares if it means I take a pay cut for a while? I’ll be making good money soon enough, doing what I love. Hey, it’s more important to me to pursue my dreams, have fun every day, and work a job I enjoy. Who wants to go to a job that feels like drudgery? Horrors! Life is too short for that kind of torture, ya know?

That also means I have to take giant leaps of faith on a regular basis that scare the shit outta me. But those kinds of calculated risks are par for the course if you make it your life’s work to pursue your dreams.

Then my agent and I discussed Twitter. Alex set up that account for me in October. But I’ve been too slammed with the new website, new publisher, book biz, and working on the vamp novel to spend any time at Twitter until a few weeks ago.

“You know what really pisses me off?” I ask.

He laughs. “I know of a few things.”

“It’s those book biz experts on Twitter who think I’m a brainless twit because I write erotica and I’ve chosen to remain in the small press for my entire 22 year career.”

They have no idea how financially successful you can be in the small press if you’re an author who knows how to market and sell. Seriously, they don’t have a clue.

“Fuck ‘em,” he replies. “And not in a good way.”

“That’s exactly what I said!” I exclaim.

And it’s true. I am what I am. Twitter isn’t Facebook. I can be my sexy, slutty self on FB, and my fans love it.

But Twitter is a whole new ballgame. You’ve got a bunch of stuffy book biz people tweeting among themselves. Don’t get me wrong. What they say is fascinating if you love the book biz and bookselling as much as I do. But few of them will give the time of day to an erotica novelist.

And then the whole erotica scene over there is different. It takes a while to find erotica fans and bloggers who won’t freak over sexy talk about hunky guys and the lusty novels we read. For lack of a better word Twitter is kinda neutered and prudish when it comes to erotica.

Horrors!

“Plus,” I continue. “I’ve only been there two weeks. I’m still learning Twitter. But I found out today I’ve already been blocked.”

“Oh, no,” my agent groans. “By Twitter?” Okay, I have a history of online censoring. But I’m getting better at staying one step ahead of the web censors. Really, I am. LOL

“Nah,” I reply. “She’s one of those snotty book biz experts.”

“Fuck her,” he replies. “You can’t please everyone. You’re different than most erotica novelists. You have to be who you are. That’s always been your strategy, and it’s a good one for Twitter as well.”

“That’s exactly what I said after I realized what she’d done,” I reply. No wonder I love this guy so much!!

Who knows why she blocked me? Could be because she doesn’t like sex or erotica or Witches. Maybe she thinks all erotica novelists are brainless twits.

Who cares? Not me.

I am what I am, and I’m having a blast at Twitter now cause I finally found a bunch of readers/fans/bloggers who love erotica and sex as much as I do. They’re cool and don’t freak over the lusty way I talk about hunky guys, jogging while wearing my nipple jewelry, sexy books, etc.

You gotta be who you are, right? So if talking to a slutty, un-neutered erotica novelist sounds good to you, follow me on Twitter. I’m having a naughty party over there every day. Yes, I am. *kinky grin*

My Art Prints are in my Store. Yay!

If you’ve ever googled me, you know I also have a line of empowering art prints and posters. Many of you have been asking when these items will be added to my store.

Well, today is the day!

In 1995, Haddad’s Fine Arts Inc., in California began publishing a line of six art prints and one poster featuring my empowering poems, mediations, and whimsical paintings. Since then these prints have sold worldwide every year and were carried for a while by Target (on the West Coast), Michael’s, and Bed, Bath & Beyond. Now they’re sold by several art print distributors on the web and in art galleries/frame shops worldwide.

On Monday I put together a nice selection of these prints for my store. You’ll find them in the category titled “Laura’s Empowering Art Prints” (just click on the “Shop!” button in the button bar at the top of the page). There you’ll find all seven prints available unframed, framed, or laminated.

Cool, huh?!

In case you’re wondering, I was an art major in college, and my paintings and prints were sold in art galleries across the country. That’s how I could write the “Mirabella” section of “The Witches of Dixie.” Mirabella is not me. She’s a fictional character. But her art career? Well, been there, done that. LOL

However, being a painter never completely satisfied me. That’s why, when I turned 30, I changed careers and began writing/publishing books. And I’ve never looked back.

What can I say? I’m a simple slut. I always knew when I finally found the perfect outlet for my creativity I’d go with it, and ride, baby, ride! And that’s exactly what I’ve done. *naughty grin*

Oh, How I Love My Sexy Bod!

I’ve already written blog posts in the last year about how much I love my pussy and my small breasts. So I thought I’d write today about how much I love my sexy bod. Especially since this is the time of year when I tend to go into shock. Yeah, my birthday is coming up the first week of April.

I’ll be 53.

Eeeek! There must be some mistake, right? LOL

Being delusional and always thinking I’m 18 helps soften the birthday blow. Plus, the fact I tend to dress, talk, and act like a teenager (duh!) doesn’t hurt. Not to mention, I take really good care of my sexy bod (which is true of all the exhibitionists I know, but that’s another blog post… *kinky grin).

So why do I take good care of my bod? Cause it’s the only one I’ve got. Duh! LOL

Those of you who know me know I’m a vegetarian, and I eat organic most of the time. No chemicals for me. Eeeek! I also don’t drink alcohol or eat sugar.

And I LOVE to exercise! I always have. When I was a teenager I jogged and was into yoga. The yoga phase didn’t last long. But I’ve always done some form of exercising, and I LOVE to jog. Did I mention that? Oh, right, I did.

The only time I couldn’t exercise was in my 40s for about five years when I had really bad fibroids. Talk about painful. Eeeek! They put a cramp in my sex life, too. Horrors! But then I found a great acupuncture doc, and he got rid of the fibroids naturally, as well as the endometriosis that had plagued me since I was twelve. Okay, I’ve also been into alternative medicine my entire adult life.

Some of my readers have mentioned they’d love to lose extra pounds and exercise, but they don’t have the time. Ha! Like I do? Not! Hey, I’m the one who works 10-12 hour days almost every day of the week. Yet I exercise every day.

How do I do it? I always say a diet and exercise regime will never work unless it’s a lifestyle change. That’s definitely true for vegetarians. We become vegetarians because we wanna eat healthier. Weight loss is just a nifty side effect, but it’s not the goal. If it were, most people wouldn’t stay vegetarians. It’s the kind of thing that takes a lifestyle commitment. It’s not something you can just add to your present lifestyle.

Exercise is the same way. It’s gotta fit into your lifestyle, or it’ll never happen. I don’t know about you, but I work too many hours to hit the gym every day. However, I do exercise every day. How do I do it? I work it into my present lifestyle, rather than trying to fit my lifestyle around it.

I suppose the easy way to do it would be to buy one of those cool exercise machines. And when Wes the Packrat cleans out my garage (hopefully, sometime this decade *LOL) I’ll do just that.

Until then, I find increments of time during my day to work in a good exercise routine.

For example, before I go to bed at night I lift five-pound weights to strengthen my biceps. I do 60 lifts with each arm every night.

While my lunch is cooking in the microwave, I do leg lifts to keep my ass tight. Then I jog a mile. I used to run outside, but the weather doesn’t always cooperate, and I really hate to miss my run. So I discovered I could jog in place and get a more efficient workout. Just count your steps: 1000 steps is half a mile, and 2000 steps is a mile. It takes me about 15 minutes to jog a mile in place. If you jog forward and backward (like 5 feet) you work extra muscles in the back of your thighs. If you do arm circles at the same time you strengthen your biceps and triceps. Cool! I used to lift weights for my triceps (nobody wants those hideous bat-wings, ya know? Horrors!). But I stopped when I discovered arm circles could do that for me while I was jogging. Okay, I’m a multi-tasker from waaaaaay back.

This daily exercise routine keeps my sexy bod toned with daily spot exercises, weight lifting, and jogging 5-6 miles every week.

Hey, if I can do it and work 10+ hours every day, anyone can, right?

BTW, isn’t it cool how this blog post popped into my head the first day of February? I mean, it’s just in time to help those of you achieve your New Year’s resolutions for losing weight and living healthier in 2010.

See? I can be helpful and think of others. Kinda. Maybe. Not. LMAO!!
