Buckle Your Seatbelts….It’s Gonna be a Wild Ride!
Sorry I haven’t been posting and chatting as much as I usually do at Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads. But I’ve been totally slammed for the last week, working out the millions of details involved in launching The Manigault Vampires serial.
In fact Kittyfeather Press publishing the vamp series in ebook marks a MAJOR turning point in my career. Yeah, this slut is finally positioned to take off and zoom into the stratosphere.
Alrightyyyy!
Seriously though, going back to Kittyfeather is a giant step on my career path. Kittyfeather Press is my publishing company, and the one that has always sold the most books for me. It’s the publisher that made me one of the most financially successful of the small press novelists and poets. I founded it in 1988, and it wasn’t until 2005 that I began allowing other publishers to sell and distribute my books.
What can I say? Five years later I’m not terribly happy with this arrangement and all the disasters I’ve managed to survive with a few of these publishers.
Yeesh!
So I’ve decided to take back some control by giving the vampire series to Kittyfeather to publish as serial ebooks.
Because Kittyfeather is my company that means it moves fast like me, and everything it does is unusual and different. I know, but I can’t help it. Being “normal” is such a snooze. LOL
So if you wanna keep up with me, you need to get on my email list.
Many of you from Twitter, my Facebook Fan Page, and Goodreads are already on my list. But many of you aren’t. Those who are receive my monthly newsletter, my twice-a-week blog notifications, and soon a monthly notification to let you know when the next installment in The Manigault Vampires goes on sale.
As you know, I’m busy as hell these days, writing new novels and keeping up with my fast-track career. That means this email list is the only way my readers and fans can keep up with everything that happens to me. It’s also the only way you’ll find out about ALL the cool stuff I’m creating for you.
There are a few ways to get on my email list if you aren’t already. You can sign up for my Newsletter under the “Contact” button on this site at http://www.laurastamps.com/contact/newsletter/
Or you can send me an email at laura@laurastamps.com and I’ll add you to the list.
Whatever you do, GET ON THIS LIST! Why? Cause the SexWitch is free at last and ready to rock n’ roll.
Yeah, it’s gonna be a wild ride. I guarantee it! *naughty grin*
xoxo

A big Congrats to you Laura! It sounds like a great plan and hope it makes all your expectations. Was it hard to start your own publishing company?

Thanks, girlfriend! I'm giddy happy about this turn of events, so I have high hopes too.
I started Kittyfeather Press in the late 80s. My account set it up for me, and I went from there. You need a biz license. Then you need to get set up on a monthly or quarterly sales/use tax schedule. Then it's just a matter of marketing your ass off. You know the hours I put in every day (like 10/day, 7 days a week). The thing I realized going witb other publishers is I had to work just as hard, and I had less control over my books. With my own company I was used to babying my customers cause I love ya so much! My hands were tied with some of my publishers when it came to that. But no more!

Still, marketing determines the success or failure of a publishing company. You can have a lot of sales upfront when you first start because you are selling to family and friends. But you go through all of them in a week or so. Then it gets down to the nitty grity of building your fan base from people you don't know who read and love your books. Marketing, selling, PR, advertising, you name it. HARD work. But totally worth it, I think.

So do you publish anyone else? Its all very interesting to me to hear all this, not that I have anything to publish mind you.Do the bigger publishers try to push you around? Just curious how the big guys look at you.

No, all I can handle is myself and that keeps me plenty busy. Do big pubs push me around? Nah, they can't. Small pubs like Kittyfeather don't use bookstore distribution like the big guys so we stay out of their way.
You would have to ask how the big guys look at us, didn't you? And I'm an honest person too. Okay, how do they view us? Like a piece of dog shit. Honestly. There is a huge prejudice against small publishers like me. Just as there is a huge prejudice against POD publishing.
But you know me. I ignore anyone who doesn't groove with me cause that's a total waste of my time. Kittyfeather is just like me. We find ways to get the good stuff to my customers no matter what. And have a blast doing it.
BTW, the first reviews are coming out of the vamp novel. And they are GOOD! Squeeeeeeee!!!
