I Let the Uber Off the Hook. Yeah, I Did.

I’ve been realllllly mad at the Uber this week. I only get mad twice a year, and it’s always the Uber’s fault (which he readily agrees with if you ask him). In fact he’s amazed I’m not mad at him twice a week, which he says he fully deserves (LOL). But I’m not a cranky Uber or Alpha. I’m an Omega, and we tend to happy-dance through life, so it takes a LOT to make an Omega mad. Seriously.

But the Uber crossed that line this week. He’s only supposed to have one glass of wine every evening because of his A-Fib heart condition. I’m okay with him fudging and having two glasses of wine. But he let it slip last week he’s been drinking vodka again, sometimes as many as three or four per night at the bar he goes to. Grrrrrrr!

At first I was shocked because I can’t imagine him doing something he knows could give him a heart attack or a stroke. I mean, what is he thinking??!!! Then I had to deal with the shock of realizing I could be a widow in my 50s rather then my70s like I had always thought. Then I got reallllllly mad because I don’t want the Uber to die young. Add to that the fact he’s indulging again in constant Uberish temper tantrums every day (also a no-no, according to his heart doctor). So I planned to have a talk with him about it and let him know I’m NOT happy about any of this!

Before I could do that I had an acupuncture appointment on Wednesday. Dr. Li also treats the Uber for the arthritis in his knees and back (typical of old jocks). He knows the Uber well and said there is no way the Uber would give up drinking vodka because he likes it too much. Like me, Dr. Li values his health and his life, and can’t imagine doing anything to jeopardize it. But he knows the Uber would in a second (which is why he has so many health problems).

My neighbor, who is a nurse, also told me weeks ago the Uber would be back drinking vodka again. She came with me when the ambulance took the Uber to the hospital last month and helped me find his room in that mammoth hospital and tried to calm him down when we got there. But she also likes vodka and knows how the Uber is. "He’ll never give up vodka," she declared. I didn’t believe her at the time, but I do now.

So that was my dilemma this week. I was mad at the Uber for endangering his life, because I value my health and my life. But the fact is one of the few things he and I have in common is we are both hedonists, and we both live for the pleasure of the moment. Drinking vodka makes him happy. He’ll never become an alcoholic, although more than one vodka per day could kill him all the same because of his heart condition. I could yell at him about it, and we’d have a big fight, but the fact is he won’t change no matter what I say.

I realized what I need to do is to let him be who he is. I’ve always done this with everyone in my life, no matter how hard it is sometimes. Yeah, you really do have to let people be who they are. Trying to change people never works. And trying to change an Uber or Alpha is impossible.

So if he wants to play Russian Roulette with his heart I can’t stop him. The Uber drinks vodka because it makes him happy. So I have to accept him for who he is and not stress over it. If he dies young from a heart attack or a stroke at least he’ll die happy. Actually, you can’t get any better than dying happy, right? It took me a while, but I’m cool with it now, which means I’ve accepted it and the consequences of his actions.

Of course, this means I’m looking more seriously at my local harem of men, since I could be back in the dating market any day now. The Uber has just given me an excuse to ogle men even more than usual. Mmm…that could be fun! I mean, a girl’s gotta prepare for the future, ya know? Especially if she LOVES men as much as I do, and she’s totally oversexed. Yeah, I could handle that.

So now you know what Omegas are good at: making lemonade out of lemons. Yummy! *lusty grin*

Thanks, Annie! Yeah, you know all too well the damage alcohol can do to people. In the Uber’s case he is allergic to alcohol, so he really shouldn’t drink at all. Too much really does make him quite ill. But this is his life, so I have to let him be who he is and let him deal with the consequences.
