What is Happening to Me?!!

Hope you had a good weekend.  Mine was AWESOME!  Yesterday, I finally finished the major edits on my latest erotica novella, The Harvest Moon.  Now it only needs a few minor edits, and it should be ready to send to my erotica publisher by the end of the week.  Yay!

Saturday afternoon the Uber and I had one of our smokin’ hot sex dates.  Have I mentioned in the last thirty minutes what a fan I am of his low-dose, high blood pressure meds?  YOWZA!  Let me tell you the Uber is a wild man on that stuff.  Love it!

Which brings me to the subject of this post.  Something strangely wonderful is happening to me.  As you know I’m 51 and have been in menopause for over a year now.  Have I mentioned in the last thirty minutes what a fan I am of menopause?  Love it!  But here’s the strange part.  Everything I have ever read about menopause says your libido drops as well as your physical sensation during sex.

Hey, not so with me!  Every time I have sex the intensity of physical feeling increases by several watts.  I don’t know if it’s because I get an acupuncture treatment once a month to balance my hormones (rather than taking nasty chemical HRT meds).  Or if it’s because I’m an almost-vegan vegetarian.  Who knows?  My libido is not only stuck on GO!!!, but during sex my equipment is also screaming, "Dear Goddess, this feels soooooooo GOOD!!"

All I can say is the 50s are turning out to be the best years of my sex life so far.  Wow.  Who would’ve ever thought that?  So, ladies, never fear.  The 50s are SMOKIN’!!

Now if I can just keep from killing the Uber with sex, I’ll have it made, ya know?  It’s like I always tell him.  No matter how much he moans and groans, this is not the time for his warranty to expire.  I mean, I’m not ready to break in one of my boyfriends.  Yet.  *wicked grin*

You will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your 40s!! See? That’s the thing. I had so much fun in my 40s I couldn’t believe I could have more fun in my 50s. Plus, I had heard all the weird things about menopause. Well, not true for me. My 50s are a blast so far, and I will 52 in April. The fun just keeps coming! Yup, you will LOVE your 40s. *naughty grin*

    Lucky you!

I’ve been meaning to ask how you got started with your writing, and how you found the right publisher and deals, etc. I don’t know if you answer questions, so feel free to ignore. But I am trying to learn as much as I can about the business, and really don’t even know where to look as far as figuring out how to take care of myself.

No Problem. I’m always happy to help. I’ve been a fulltime writer for 21 years. I was an artist before that (a painter, and I still do the paintings for some of my book covers). That means I majored in art in college. So I taught myself how to write. Yup, I’m self-taught.

As for getting started in marketing, etc., I would suggest you find a copy of the “Novel and Short Story Writer’s Market” book by Writer’s Digest (F&W Publications). You can find it in the reference section of any bookstore. It will give you the basics of the business. Your primary concern as a beginner is to get as many short stories of yours published in magazines as possible before you try to shop a novel to a publisher or agent. They are going to look at your writer’s resume (your publication credits) before they look at anything. I learned this early on, and it is one reason why I have no trouble finding publishers. My fiction and poetry have been published in over 1000 magazines worldwide. That speaks volumes and opens every door for me when it comes to publishing my novels.

Then all you’ll have to do is learn how to sell your books, because most publishers don’t do that anymore. They leave most of the selling and marketing up to the author these days.

    Good luck and happy writing!
